Alana Frenkel (she/they) is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who is passionate about empowering individuals from a decolonized, trauma-informed, and body-centered or somatic perspective. Their sensitive and caring approach includes a holistic and interdisciplinary lens to provide folx they work with to feel seen, heard, and empowered to better themselves and their interactions with the world. They work directly to help people find a sense of safety and security in their lives, and is especially focused on the ideology behind people continuing to grow, explore, and play at every stage of life. They also believe that joy and pleasure are forms of resistance, and how these acts can shape someone’s ability to exist in the world even dealing with forms of systemic oppression.
Alana thrives in building relationships with people from all walks of life and identities. Identifying as a queer “spicy-brained” person involved in ENM and kink culture, they are someone who brings openness and integrity to their practice with individuals and ensures those folx can feel safe and able to share and affirm all parts of their lives in a therapeutic setting. Alana utilizes a humanistic, strengths-based, and multi-modality approach with mindfulness and somatic influences to bring people they work with into the present moment. They are able to do this by combining aspects of DBT, CBT, Motivational Interviewing (MI), Internal Family Systems (IFS), with somatic-based, mindfulness-based interventions (MBIs) to provide the most helpful care to those they are working with.
Alana has experience from working with incarcerated/formerly incarcerated individuals, in addition to in-home or community settings, and acute care (e.g. Crisis Intervention/Response). Alana has mostly worked with adults in their clinical practice, but still has influences from previous work with family structures.
When not in the office or working, Alana can be seen rocking out to some karaoke, whether out “in the wild” or even in their spooky 1800s barn house, dubbed “barnaoke”. She also has a performance background in music and theater/improv, as well as being an avid gamer, reader, hiker/outdoors lover, and enjoys time with their partner and gaggle of animals (two dogs and two cats).
