Couples therapy is primarily done with a systemic lens attached to the process and investigates factors of origin to provide context to dynamic tensions in the relationship. Those interested in couples therapy should know that the full intake process involves an initial meeting with both parties, followed by individual sessions with each partner, and a fourth session attended by all parties to determine history, culture, goals, focuses, intentions, and steps/structure of your therapy experience.  Each couple is guided to individually reflect on how they work towards cultivating mutual support and intentionality in developing the relationship and/or determining its course with transparent reflection of where each person feels the relationship is.

Topics to be expected in a couple’s therapy intake include:

  • Family of origin & current family constellation
  • Patterns of communication known & styles learned throughout life
  • Sexuality & one’s relationship to it through development
  • Intentions & desired changes to improve quality of life

When you are scheduled for couples therapy you will be asked to individually fill out our questionnaire. Additionally, we recommend making genograms while waiting for services, to submit to your therapist.

We pride ourselves in being a hetero-friendly practice that is welcoming of all relationship structures, sexualities, genders, and dis/abilities. Please reach out and ask for a consultation to see if an available therapist may be right for you in seeking couples/relational therapy:
