Protesting Prides

As June unfolds and the world recognizes space for queer folks to be prideful of our existence we come to a moment in the U.S. that is fraught with tension and anxiety. Protesting is again linked with the celebration of gay Pride as our very existence as queer people is becoming endangered if we stand in solidarity with all queer folks, trans and non-binary alike. Darling Mental Health chooses to take a stand and support the efforts of queer liberation, the use of peer-reviewed research and scientific understanding of gender and sexuality, and working to decolonize our lensing for authentic mental wellness, health, and healing.

This weekend also marks the celebration of the U.S. Army’s 250th birthday, an organization that specifically was ratified to fight against the tyranny and oppression that the King of England perpetuated during Colonial times. We now find ourselves watching that celebration with a President who has fashioned himself as a King at different times throughout his public speaking and for this reason over a thousand protests are being organized for “No Kings” in the US and of special significance, the city known for rallying the call for revolution by spilling tea is holding its gay pride on the same day.

Tomorrow, Boston’s Pride for the People will be a joint gay pride celebration and No Kings protest, further cementing Boston and Massachusetts history as a paradigm for seeking justice, freedom, and liberation through revolution and rejection of tyrannical oppression. We hope that the weekend shows a country united against a rising tide of racist ideology and bigotry demanding compliance to a worldview that is limited by natalist propaganda and white supremacist belief in manifest destiny over reciprocal integration of Indigenous and diverse people throughout our land.

May you and your loved ones have a safe, happy, and festive Pride month!

The Unofficial Start of Summer

Darling Mental Health hopes that everyone had a restful and happy Memorial Day weekend which, among many things of honest reflection and gratitude, is also the unofficial start to summer for the US. As the warmer weather continues and people get more active and engaging in the community, we would like to remind people of different offerings and ways to connect with us in the upcoming months.

Firstly, in our mission to provide equitable service to as many as possible, we want to make sure that the community knows that a new team has formed here at Darling Mental Health and we are now taking on new cases for individual therapy, child/teen centered family therapy, support groups, and are processing a waitlist for couples/sex therapy.

If you are new to seeking mental health counseling services or would like to discuss whether your case is an appropriate fit for one of our clinicians, consults can be scheduled with the Director. Requests for specific clinicians are being processed actively, so please take a moment to review our team and don’t forget to click on their “more about” information to get a sense of whom you may wish to work with!

Additionally, our support groups for Parents of Trans Folks and ENM/Poly Life are scheduled out in the system for the month of June. You can register for any scheduled group through our online booking system. We ask that you complete an intake form with consent and group rules before attending any support group.

WooSex.org

Darling Mental Health is pleased to announce the launch of the newly designed WooSex.org site to house our Resource Directory!

The new site is easy to remember, is easier to navigate, and is easier to manage on the back-end for adding more resources, therapists, and sections.

We will be curating a recommendations page for media and sources that relate to sexual health and gender identity and look forward to continuing to partner with local providers in hosting and maintaining a free resource directory focused on the Worcester community.

Historic February

As Groundhog Day weekend ends, and Black History Month begins in earnest, we at Darling Mental Health want to remind everyone that Black History is American History! Being an authentic citizen of the United States requires us to take time to reflect on the profoundly unjust foundations of this country, which initially granted representation only to White male property owners. The battle for civil rights and voting equality is still ongoing, and history shows us that struggle is necessary for meaningful change. As we reflect on this past, let’s honor the resilience, contributions, and progress of Black Americans.

As this year unfolds, we recognize the shifting political and social landscape, where discrimination and hate continue to rise. We see your fears, we hear them, and we share them. But in the face of oppression, we choose to fight back with resilience, solidarity, and a commitment to fostering connection and support—both for those seeking mental health services and for those providing them.

With the physical opening of our new office in March, we are actively looking to partner with individuals and organizations in our community. Opportunities for employment, contracting, and office rentals are available, and we aim to build an entire team in the coming months to meet the growing demand for queer-affirming, gender-informed, and trauma-informed care in the Worcester area.

We invite you to explore our new “Partner with us” page and consider how you might contribute to our mission. Whether through collaboration, advocacy, or direct support, every effort helps us create a stronger, more inclusive future for mental health care.

New Year & Office Location

Darling Mental Health is pleased to announce that we have a new practice location opening near Elm Park in Worcester!

All in-person appointments and services will be conducted at the new location beginning March 1, 2025 at 255 Park Ave, for which there is a free parking garage and building security from 8am-8pm. Our new office space will ensure that we can provide a physical bulletin board and resource center in our public waiting room as well as a conference room to be used for: in-person education and therapist trainings, drop-in support groups, and closed group therapy; services we hope to offer in only a few short months!

We are actively looking to hire new clinicians to be part of our values-based team focused on providing ethical sex therapy, gender-affirming counseling, and general mental health services for all ages and outpatient conditions. Clinicians do not need to be a specialist in sex or gender counseling, but should espouse the values we stand for in securing equitable access to care that affirms each and every person’s right to healthy sexuality and authentic gender identity/expression. Clinicians will have free access to training and supervision to increase skillsets in supporting clients who are seeking treatment with a sex therapist, gender specialist, and who fall in any aspect of the queer community with trans, intersex, and asexual inclusion as part of our public philosophy. We are a profit-share modeled company who partner with local organizations to evaluate and address needs in the Worcester community. Read the job description here and apply to join the team today!

In line with such a launch we are revamping the website and are changing the Resource Directory to: WooSex.org an online sex therapy resource directory created by a Worcester based clinician, with educational links about sexual health and gender diversity and resource networks from in- and outside of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts; expect new design, user feel, and layout in February!

Additionally, a new waiting list application process has been developed for all those seeking outpatient mental health counseling with therapists who are trained and supervised on providing sex therapy, gender identity and trans-affirming counseling, trauma-informed care, as well as many other modalities for the people of Worcester. Our new EHR the Jane app has a HIPAA compliant request form to be put on the waiting list, we are expecting a 2 month turnaround to place you with an appropriate clinician with 15 min consults being scheduled with the Director by request. Your place on our waitlist will be confirmed within 3 business days.

We are joyfully looking forward to new developments and adventures in 2025 as we rise to meet the need of our most vulnerable populations and hope to create a new and welcoming in-person practice that comes to meet the needs of our diverse community.

May we find connection, support, and inspiration in the coming months!
