Safety in Solidarity: Supporting sex workers

This course focuses on practical and compassionate approaches to supporting the safety and wellbeing of sex workers. Participants will learn about the structural challenges sex workers face, including stigma, criminalization, and barriers to healthcare and resources. The session highlights harm reduction strategies, best practices for creating affirming spaces, and ways to advocate for policies that protect sex workers’ rights. Through case examples and guided discussion, attendees will gain tools to support sex workers with respect, dignity, and solidarity. This workshop is designed for therapists, educators, advocates, and allies committed to fostering safer, more inclusive communities.

Course objectives:

  • Become familiar with the current legal landscape and history surrounding sex workers in the U.S.
  • Understand the legal, socio-political, emotional, and physical challenges sex workers face, as well as why folks may choose to become sex workers and liberation frameworks in sex work.
  • Learn specific care and advocacy practices for sex worker clients

This course will be offered virtually (synchronous) and will require pre-registration.
