This 3-hour training will review the history and ethical development of sex therapy as a specialty in the world of outpatient mental health. Ethical lenses and theories will be reviewed to help each participant understand what are best practices in supporting client’s who present with problems associated to sexual health, function, identity, and expression. Resources, methodology, and theories of practice will be reviewed as it applies to common presentations, as well as guidance on what support a clinician may need in seeking out certification as a sex therapist or otherwise ensure long-term good client care, including how the therapist plays a role in addressing cultural bias that affects people with minority identities.
Course Objectives:
- Learn ethical theories and frameworks as they relate to sex therapy
- Identify different modalities of care for common sexual health concerns
- Conceptualize an active process for the therapist to help best serve clients with minority identities seeking sex and/or gender-affirming therapy
This course will be offered virtually (synchronous) and will require pre-registration.
