Compassion for Arabs

Exploration of what propaganda and cultural lensing exists in common American languages, how it affects sex therapy, and how these concepts of the Arab world intersect. Diversity in the Arab world’s religions, politics, ethnicities, etc. with targeted exploration of the experiences of those with Middle East and North African (MENA) heritages will be highlighted. Special attention will be paid to the difficulties many Arabs have in finding safe spaces to speak of their perspectives and needs regarding common issues that affect different relational parts of life.

Course objectives:

  • Learn historical facts about the Arab world that include contributions to science, art, religion/philosophy, commerce, and sexuality
  • Identify critical thinking skills needed to engage with Arab cultures, politics, biases, and fears that are predominately interpreted from a US lens of prejudice
  • Learn anti-Colonial language to create safe spaces for Arab clients to open up about their own feelings and fears related to life in the US

This course will be offered virtually via Zoom, will require pre-registration, and will be recorded for quality assurance and evaluation purposes only.

Info and Policies

To receive Continuing Education credits an evaluation must be completed and submitted at the end of the course.

This course meets the requirements of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists and is approved for 3 CE Credits. These CE credits may be applied toward AASECT certification and renewal of certification.
